Max I. DeWeese was born March 20, 1921. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and served throughout the south Pacific until he was separated from active duty in 1946. He was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 18th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division as a rifleman. Max was in the first landing on Guadalcanal. Following Guadalcanal Max was assigned to the Engineers and became a flamethrower operator. He went on to serve on Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian Islands. During his service he received two Purple Heart Medals for wounds received in combat and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1949, Max joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He served at Camp Pendleton and then was transferred to Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia, where he was a weapons instructor.
Max spent a total of 23 years serving the United States of America in the United States Marine Corps.
