Harold Larry Oppenheimer was a retired brigadier general in the Marine Corps and Chairman of Oppenheimer Industries Inc., a cattle land management, and investment company based in Kansas City, Mo.
A Harvard anthropology major (’39 he graduated Cum Laude at 19, then set off for Bolivia and Peru.
Attracted to the rugged life, he dropped plans for his Ph.D. and joined the Marin
es. The General became, at 23, the youngest battalion commander in the Corps.
He was one of the nation’s leading authorities on cattle investments and was the author of five books on agriculture, including perhaps his most well known book, Cowboy Economics.
